Imagine that your house is on fire.

What do you do?

You haven’t practiced.

You don’t even know how to use a fire extinguisher.

But you have to think quick.

Because the clock is ticking.

So you focus.

Sharpen your senses.

And that’s because our brains are built to respond to these kinds of situations. 

We are at our best, our most superhuman, in life or death situations.

We have evolved to respond to and survive the unexpected.

Yet, we rarely need to.

Most of us live in a constant state of comfort. 

We have our homes, grocery stores, same groups of friends.

We are rarely, if ever, forced to survive.

So, our cortisol, aka our stress hormone, is exhausted on trivial concerns instead.

We overthink and get anxiety over something someone said.

We lose sleep over an upcoming project.

We scroll through social media stressfully comparing our lives to others.

But a direct confrontation with death awakens us.

It reminds us what matters.

Our breath.

Our bodies.

Our minds.

We are never more alive than when we are in survival mode.

This Monday, you will witness Yes Theory’s closest encounter with death.

It wasn’t a house on fire.

It wasn’t an armed robbery.

It wasn’t a disease.

It was the cold.

The merciless, freezing cold.

Unbeknownst to us, we were part of an experiment.

We were guinea pigs.
